107. It's Never too Late to Run Your Race w/Barry Karch
Have you ever gotten burnt out from doing something you love?
That was where my guest on today's show found himself several years ago. Barry Karch was an avid runner, with an almost insatiable appetite for completing the next big race. But overtime he grew to resent and dread the very activity that had provided him with so much joy & fulfillment...
So what did Barry do?
He took the next 2 decades off from running! And as he approached his 60s, Barry realized he wasn't getting any healthier. He knew he needed to make a change, and 1 question from his wife got the wheels turning in his head:
"Do you think you'll ever do another race?"
And he did! The past several years have been a "running rennaissance" for Barry as his love for the sport has been rekindled and his passion burns brighter than ever! And his renewed commitment to running has not only improved his fitness, but has also paid dividends in other areas of his life!
In our conversation we talk about the mindset needed to train and persevere for physical challenges, and how doing hard things proves that you're capable of more than you imagined. The question of "What else can I do?" feeds the desire to work harder and push further. We discuss Barry's podcast, and the inspiring stories shared by Barry & his guests.
We also discuss Barry's upcoming Misogi: Chad Wright's Rite of Passage, where Barry will spend 24 continuous hours on his feet as he hikes through the mountains in Georgia!
Be encouraged and inspired to know it's NEVER too late to start and resolve yourself to ascend to new heights in any area of life!
