103. Liturgies for Life: daily rhythms of faith for your family

What comes to mind when you hear the word "liturgy?"

Is it a stale or stuffy religious word? Is it a concept that seems overly pious or impersonal? What if liturgy was actually our opportunity to practically live out our faith in our moment by moment interactions as a family?

In this episode I explore the practice of liturgy, and its useful application in our daily lives: from getting ready for the day, driving in our cars, dealing with discipline, and gathering for meals.

God's word has much to say on how we are to raise our children in the faith:

  • Proverbs 20:7 The righteous who walks in his integrity - blessed are his children after him!
  • Josh 24:15 …choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served… or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord
  • Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it
  • Deuteronomy 6:6-7 these commandments that i give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress (or teach) them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up… *so always
  • Psalms 78:5-6 He decreed statues for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children
  • Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

The practice of liturgy offers us a template of prayer that can remind us and empower us to worship God even in the messiest moments!
